Founded in Los Angeles California in 1996. The American Alumni Association has accomplished much in such a short time and is being considered by many as noteworthy and pioneering in its actions. The goals of the organization have been set on a realistic and achievable basis.
The basic concept, in setting up this organization, has been to give back something to the institution that gave us all our current standing in our occupations and in society. The membership over the years has been generous in its support of the Association's activities.
The following are some of the accomplishments and challenges that we have taken on and have built up our membership support over the years:
1. Membership increased from 7 to 100+ in 8 years spread all over USA.
2. Merit - cum- Means scholarship awards rose from 5 to 27 in 14 years.
3. Life donor members increased 1 to 20.
4. Instituted subscription to technical journals to help students and faculty.
5. Instituted Guest lecture programs
6. The association has donated money to buy Graduate College Entrance
Examination books.
7. The Association is in the process of instituting a mentorship program.
8. One day in November/December is celebrated as “ Scholarship Awards Day “
9. At Present we have 27.4 Laks deposits in the fixed deposits which is earning
interests to pay for scholarships.
Biggest achievement is we formed “ BMS College of Engineering American Alumni Trust “ in Bangalore and got the clearance from Income Tax Department to receive money in local rupees. We are in a final stages of obtaining 80 (G) from Income Tax department.
The annual “ Scholarship Awards Day “ now includes scholarship awards and an endowment lecture. The invitee for this lecture is an alumnus of the college who has excelled in his/her filed, accomplished and recognized by the peers, and looked upon as role model by many.
The membership fee is $25 per year and the main support for the activities comes from the tax deductible donations from the members and others.
